Have You Checked Your Pool Drain Covers?

Drain Cover

Did you know that according to the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) as a Pool, Spa and hot tub owner you should check your Pool and Spa drains to ensure that a safety entrapment hazard does not occur?

As a pool, spa owner, or even professional you should check the manufacturers recommendations on when you should replace your drain covers. It is extremely dangerous to replace a drain cover and it is recommended that you should hire an industry professional to be on the safe side.

Protect against drain entrapment by only installing drain covers authorized by the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (also known as VGB-compliant drain covers). This act was passed in 2007 to prevent accidental drain entrapments and eviscerations in pools and spas. For more information on the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act please click on the link below from Hayward.

When is it a good time to check your drain covers

The best time to check your pool, spa, or hot tub drain is at the beginning of each season. If you notice that your pool, spa, or hot tub drain cover is missing, is broken or not properly installed it is highly recommended that you reach out to an industry professional to get this fixed asap to prevent anentrapment hazard

You can check to see when your drain cover has expired by finding a APSP professional near you. APSP was founded in 1965 and a non profit organization dedicated to publishing standards for the pool, spa, and hot tub industries. You can contact APSP below to find out more on pool safety.
